Giant Refrigerator Doesn’t Fit

Well, it's been a wild ride in the Apricot Tree Press headquarters, folks. Just when I thought my biggest challenge was figuring out how to turn apricots into not only jam but also inspiration for our latest stationery line, the universe threw me a curveball—kitchen remodel edition. And oh, what a saga it's been.

Let's start with the refrigerator—a marvel of modern technology, boasting a self-filling water pitcher that whispered sweet nothings to my hydration-obsessed heart. It was love at first sight, truly. A love so deep, I overlooked one teeny, tiny detail: its size. Turns out, my beautiful, brand-new, water-dispensing wonder is a smidge too big for the cabinets. And by a smidge, I mean a good 6 inches. Oops.

So, there I was, standing in my kitchen, staring at my colossal fridge, and thinking, "Why not just scooch the whole kitchen over a bit? How hard could it be?" Spoiler alert: pretty darn hard. The cabinets, which are as beautiful as a perfectly printed thank-you note, apparently did not get the memo about being flexible. Moving the kitchen? Not happening. Selling my beloved refrigerator? Cue the violins, because it's a tragedy.

And then, the floors. Oh, the floors. In the quest for kitchen perfection, we decided the floors needed a facelift, too. You know, while we're at it. Which, in remodel-speak, means we haven't had furniture in the house for two weeks. Picture this: a family of urban homesteaders, adrift in their own home, navigating a sea of dust and tools, dining on gourmet paper plate cuisine. It's the epitome of glamor, really.

But here's the kicker: we're still living in the chaos. The promise of "It'll all be done in a week" has become my mantra, my beacon of hope in a sea of construction despair. And as I sit here, crafting this tale on a makeshift desk (read: an ironing board), I can't help but find the humor in it all.

Because at the end of the day, it's all part of the adventure. Sure, the process is meh, and yes, I miss my refrigerator more than I ever thought possible. But these moments of chaos? They're the stories we'll laugh about later, the memories that'll stick with us long after the dust has settled.

So, to anyone out there embarking on a remodel, or simply trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, remember this: the journey might be messy, but it's also filled with moments of unexpected joy and hilarity. And hey, at least we'll have beautiful cabinets (and eventually, floors) to show for it. As for the refrigerator, well, let's just say it's going to make someone else very, very happy. And me? I'll be over here, dreaming up the next big adventure. Because if there's one thing I've learned, it's that there's always room for a little more chaos in the mix.
